United States President Donald Trump on Friday had a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as he called it "productive discussions" on ending the war in Ukraine. noitepg
Trump elaborating about the conversation on social media said that he urged Putin to spare the lives of Ukrainian troops who were "completely surrounded".
Putin was quoted by Reuters saying, "In case they surrender, we guarantee we will save their lives," referring to the Ukrainian soldiers as mentioned by Trump.
Trump believes that there is "very good chance" that the war will end soon.
This conversation comes a day after Putin agreed in principle with a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine while mentioning that there are conditions to be worked out.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not very hopeful of Putin's reaction to the ceasefire proposal as he claimed that the Russian President is afraid of telling Trump that he "wants to continue this war, that he wants to kill Ukrainians."
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end."
Further Trump mentioned that the Ukrainian troops are in a vulnerable position and could lead to a 'horrible massacre' if Putin doesn't spare their lives.
"But, at this very moment, thousands of Ukrainian troops are completely surrounded by the Russian military, and in a very bad and vulnerable position. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!," the US President wrote.
Putin Agrees US Proposal For 30-Day CeasefireRussian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he agrees in principle with a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, but he emphasized that the terms are yet to be worked out and added that any truce should pave the way to lasting peace.
“The idea itself is correct, and we certainly support it," Putin told a news conference in Moscow.
“But there are issues that we need to discuss,7jogos cassino and I think that we need to talk about it with our American colleagues and partners and, perhaps, have a call with President Trump and discuss it with him."
